We believe in making the process of preparing for family photos as stress-free as possible. That’s why we’ve compiled our top tips for looking and feeling your best in front of the camera. Tip #1: Trust your own instincts. Whether it’s choosing clothes or deciding on a style, prioritize what makes you feel comfortable and confident. Remember, we can fix a lot of things in post-production, but capturing genuine emotions starts with feeling good in what you wear. This goes for everyone in the family—let’s keep it comfortable and authentic!

#1 Only YOU know what makes you feel your BEST!

I’m here to offer advice, but let’s be real: it’s all about what feels good to you. If dresses aren’t your thing, that’s totally okay! Rock those pants, shorts—just not the birthday suit, haha! And this isn’t just for the ladies; guys and kids, too, should feel comfy. Gentlemen, if jeans aren’t your jam, no worries! Opt for khakis or even beach-ready shorts. Let’s keep everyone cool and comfy for those picture-perfect moments!

#2 Momma’s Go First!

Hey, all you amazing moms out there, it’s your time to shine! I know you spend every day putting everyone else first, but now it’s your turn to make it all about YOU. So, hit the shops and find that perfect outfit that makes you feel like a million bucks. Once you’ve got that sorted, coordinating the rest of the family is a breeze. Think about it, kids can pull off just about anything. And guys, as long as you stick to the golden rule, you’re good to go with a coordinating solid top. Keep reading for Tip #5, where we delve into the colorful world of wardrobe coordination!

#3 Choose clothing that FITS properly

Do not wait until the last minute to try on the outfits. If the clothing is too big.. guess what? You will look big in the photos. Choosing clothing that fits in the right places will be key. Below are two dresses that are similar. The one on the left is more fitted above the waist giving more definition to the body. The dress on the right is a straight cut and does not give a defined waist. Try to pay attention to little details like this.

You can access links to both dresses here… Cream Dress, White Dress

#4 Solid Colors are the Way to Go

When it comes to dressing adults, solids are my top choice. Patterns have a sneaky way of adding visual weight, and who wants that? But fear not! If beach winds decide to play havoc with your outfit, we’ve got you covered with some nifty Photoshop magic. Check out how we work our editing wonders, right HERE.

Next up, let’s talk texture. Adding a little something extra to your photo ready outfit. —whether it’s through fabric details like those seen in the photos above, or with buttons, belts, or my personal fave, ruffles—can take your look to the next level. If solids feel a bit blah, here’s a fun tip: let the kids rock the patterns. It adds a pop of excitement to the group while keeping everyone coordinated. Think simple stripes or adorable flowery rompers for a touch of whimsy!

#5 Choosing Your Color

When it comes to family beach photos, you’ll notice a lot of blues and whites—and there’s good reason for that! Firstly, blues are super easy to come by, which is handy when you’ve got a big family gathering. Plus, those soft blues blend beautifully with the beach backdrop. But hey, don’t be afraid to mix things up! Adding a pop of color, like vibrant yellow, can really make your photos pop against the sea of blues. And hey, if you’re a fan of darker hues like black, that’s totally cool too! The key is to wear what makes you feel your absolute best, even if it’s not the typical beachy colors.

One color that’s been catching my eye lately on the beach is a gorgeous burnt orange or brick red tone. It adds a fresh twist to beach photos, breathing new life into the scene. Not only does it photograph beautifully, but it also tends to flatter most skin tones, making it a win-win choice for your beach photo session!

When it comes to outfit choices, the options are endless, but they definitely don’t have to be overwhelming. If you ever feel yourself getting frustrated, take a breather. And hey, don’t forget that we’re here to help!

Personally, I’m a huge fan of Amazon Prime. I love that I can order a bunch of outfits, try them on at home, and easily return the ones that don’t work out. Plus, reading reviews is a game-changer, and it’s even better when another shopper in my size shares a photo—I get to see how the dress looks on different body types! It’s like having a virtual fitting room right at your fingertips.

Amazon Shopping Tip! To help sort through the many options I look for the following things before I buy.

  1. Is it Amazon Prime with Free Returns
  2. What is the ship date? Yes, I have had some Prime products still take more than a few days.
  3. Reviews. How many stars, is there a pattern of complaints i.e. cheap fabric
  4. Check reviews for fitting. Some items run small, big or true to size
  5. Reviews with Photos. This is a major bonus in my book. Show real people purchased the item

If you prefer to shop local here in Vero Beach…which I do love to! Then check out Seahorse Lane which is located on 14th Ave Downtown. Not far from there is Coast Boutique. If you are over on the beachside, check out Treasure Lane.
