Tuesday Dinner with the Tripson Family | Vero Beach Florida

I wish I had the pleasure of knowing Sam. I only know of his death and the legacy that he left behind. I first met Sam’s wife, Kristen, in the hair product isle at Target. Her daughter Alice Ann has super long hair much like my daughter Lucy. It was a short conversation, but her kindness always stuck with me. We had our second encounter at a play date. It was then that I learned more about Kristen and the hardship of losing her husband to cancer. She was living my worst nightmare and I just wanted to help, but really.. how?

A few months later, I learned the exciting news that Kirsten was pregnant with Sam’s third baby via IVF. I knew then that I wanted to provide this baby with something special. I wanted to document her birth and to capture the love that was present on that day. Documenting the birth didn’t happen, but what did happen was truly better than anything I could have hoped for. Kristen contacted me about a project she was working on with Porfolio Magazine.  The magazine requested photographs of the weekly Tripson dinner. I was instructed to not pose or direct in any way! I was like “HECK YEAH!!!!”

As we walked up to the house together, Kristen mentioned how every time she watches the kids run up the stairs that she envisions Sam as a kid on those very same steps.  Seeing this brings her great joy. The kids ran around like kids often do and one by one more family members arrived. The evening was casual, but the love in the air was felt. I was able to witness how each family member loved on all 3 kids and Kristen. I was able to capture and preserve this family, Sam’s legacy, all in a series of photos. I invite everyone to pick up a copy of Portfolio Magazine and read more of Kristen’s story.
